Today is Sunday, October 2,2011. This is our seventh day in France.
Sorry for the lack of pictures. We can get our narratives up but we are having difficulties uploading the pictures. We will get them up as soon as we can get some bandwidth.
Our plan today is to rise early and get over to the cable car station for our ride up to Aiguille du Midi. The Aiguille du Midi is on top of a high skinny spire next to Mt. Blanc that has no business holding people much less a cable car station. The height is 3,842m (12,602'). But, this is where you change cable cars to Helbronner and onto Italy.
For more fun, there is even and elevator that takes you up to the highest platform for a 360 degree walk around view. It's the highest elevator (lift) in Europe. This is where the you reach the 3,842m. Mary and I did all of this, along with hundreds of others. The views are so spectacular, you would run out of space on this blog to describe what you are seeing. Simply, one of the best views on the planet.
The weather up there could not have been better. Beautiful blue skies with no clouds and a warm sun. The temperature around us may have been close to freezing but you were just fine in the sun. It could have been a lot worse. We were fortunate.
One of the great things to do at the top is launch yourself and your hangglider. Since we were going up at about 9:30am, we went up with several hanggliders. Everything they need, including the paraglider, are in a large backpack on their back. During the day, you can see 20-30 gliders up there. With today's great weather and being a Sunday, I'm betting a lot of sky traffic today will be up there today.
Your pictures are beautiful! When you return I can't wait to find out what kind of camera you have, or where you took photography lessons. Great job!
